Week 1

The first week of 2007

This week i started with the biggest project so far.

The pedal-box

My project is to design a new pedal-box for the Marcos 1800gt.

plaatje.jpg

I started with looking at the old pedal-box to get some dimensions and design ideas/improvements.

The i started to draw the new one. I also did a small study to know which components i had to use.

Week 52

31 01 2007

Who is working in week 52 anyway?

 I do :)

This week we packed the race-truck with equipment for the race in South-Africa.

The truck transported al the cars ro venray where everything is shipped into 2 large containers.

All the cars where right on time. The yellow corvette was still a little bit warm from the dyno-tuning

Week 51

31 01 2007

In week 51 i finished al the products from week 50 so there are not much new pictures to show about products.

But i want to show some other pictures of my first day at a race track.
In the morning i went together with Maarten Buitenhuis to vught to pick up a race car.

This was a Porsche 904 of 1964 for more technical details visit

It was a long day but very exiting i didn’t had to do a lot of technical things that day so there is still much to learn

Week 50

Parts for the Chevrolet Corvette

Dashboard
The old dashboard of the corvette was really have so i designed a lightweight dash.

dashboard.jpg

After laser cutting the 1 mm aluminium and folding the sheet it turned out like this.
A dashbaord of only 250 g (without meters) compared to the old one around 5 kg that is extremely light.

Fuel tank cover

To secure the lit of the box around the fuel tank we used a standard part.

pin2.jpg

The only problem was that the lit was 14 mm thick.
In this case it was not possible to use the standard ring that comes with the clip.

pin.jpg

This new pin is tall enough to go true the lit and it is easier to assemble because you can use a spanner to turn it.
A threaded hole is made in the bottom to connect to a bolt.

Side pipes

The corvette is now fitted with exhaust pipes at the side of the car. This is to give the car a more aggressive look.

d-8408.jpg

The only problem now is that when the driver gets out of the car he burns his leg on the exhaust.
For this reason i designed a protection cover in tachyon style.

Week 49

Tools for the Alfa GTA

This week i made some measuring tools for the Alfa.
The first one is a precise measuring of the highest point of the piston.
This tool uses a standard measuring devise together with a special mounting plate.

bdp.jpg

The second tool is to measure the lift of the valves in the engine.

kleplift.jpg

The third tool is a device to turn the camshaft easily.

In the picture above you see that in the red circle the camshaft-gear has got tiny holes if you put the pins of the tool in those holes you can turn the camshaft.

Week 48 B

31 01 2007

Uni-Ball Mclaren M8F

The Mclaren had a broken rod at the rear end of the car.

d-7808.jpg

I had to copy the exact dimensions to make a spare part for this.
because the uni-ball that fits in the 2 bushes is not a standard size i also had to draw the uni-ball.

uni-ball.jpg

We only have a small amount left from this uni-ball so i draw-ed the uni-ball to see if it is possible to manufacture a new one to this specifications.

Camshaft positioning Marcos gt1800

To tune an engine sometimes it helps to change the timing of the  camshaft.
On the Volvo engine of the Marcos it is not possible to adjust the timing.
That’s why i created a offset in the small wedge that connects the camshaft-gear to the shaft it self.

spie.jpg

Now it is possible to adjust the camshaft 3.2 degrees in both ways.
If you want to change it more it is possible to skip one hole tooth of the gear and that will make a difference of 6.4 degrees.

Week 48 A

Inlet manifold Alfa GTA

d-8126.jpg

in this picture you see the inlet holes of the engine the manifold between the engine and the carburetors was not polished

it was a really rough cast aluminuim part.

pakking1.jpg

After measuring and a lot of 1:1 prints of the gaskets is had  finally the exact shape of the inlet side.

pakking2.jpg

I also made the contours of the carburetor side.

Now the manifold can be milled to the exact size of the both flanges.

To make the final result of a good assembly with the engine.

The first week at my new comapany

This week was one big orientation for me.
New co-workers, new building, new habits and new 3D-CAD software.

At Tachyon they work with Solid Edge. And that is a little bit different then the other programs i worked with.

Here u see a picture of my first part ever in Solid Edge.
